1939 14 Dipping Headlights

I have wiring for dipping headlights - what do I need to purchase to fit the double filament bulbs into my headlamps? Should I fit Halogen bulbs? Has anyone done this?

I had decided to sacrifice originality in sake of safety and installed halogen bulbs on both cars. Halogen gives almost three times the light of a regular bulb. It is designed for special reflector and lens which bears the “E” standard mark on it. It produces a “non-symmetrical” beam which may also contribute to safety. All that means that the original reflectors and lens need to be replaced in favor of a modern 7” set. Since the original MBD148 headlight is 7-13/16 in diameter, an adapter (convertor) has to be used. Lucas released such adapters – Lucas part number 553435. They are available, from time to time on ebay.

Thanks Luli. Looks like a nice set up. If I went for non Halogens, is there a way to get the double filament bulbs into my existing lights?

You need to replace the single contact bulb holder with a double contact one. You can get it here:
