I've had my wheels powder coated. Is it necessary to remove the new paint where the wheel nuts tighten up on the wheel? I remember my Dad doing this on his Armstrong Siddeley Atalanta a while back. If it needs doing, what is the cone angle of the nut/wheel contact area? (1939 14 SS with steel wheels) Is there a tool available to do this job? Thanks for any thoughts...

Re: Powder Coated Wheels
I would suggest that this is a good idea to ease the paint around the wheel stud holes and maybe coat with a rust proofing agent. I personally prefer stove enamelling to powder coating, the same with chassis, or two pack paint.

Re: Powder Coated Wheels
On balance, it seems like good practice so I have cleared the paint from the wheels where the nuts make contact. I did it using an old wheel nut locked onto a spare piece of studding. Put the stud into the drill and with a bit of grinding paste on the nut contact face ground away the paint. Very neat job. Wheels back on and car back on the road...
