Removing P2 sump

Post by RobHomewood » Sun Jul 01, 2018 5:47 pm

I am trying to remove the sump (engine in situ) to clean it out. So I drained it and removed the oil filter and all the nuts and bolts but it is solid. The sump flange sits in a lip of the block and so there is no place to get a purchase. Tried tapping with a soft mallet but no movement. Has anyone got any suggestions please?

The gasket is most probably glued to both engine and sump. Cut through the glue using a knife, sharp screw driver etc. Then use the screw driver as a lever.

Thanks Luli
I will try again to cut the bond although the flange blocks direct access

Thanks again Luli
Having cleaned up the excess gasket and got my new inspection lamp under the car I could see that I was not attacking the correct joint and following that the old chisel did a straighforward job of breaking the seal on the sump. Now the joy of cleaning it!
