corrosion in the cross tube

Post by P3Steve » Sun May 15, 2011 8:52 pm

Been having a good poke round the last few days and to my horror found a small hole just big enough to put a screw driver end in (Guess how I found it) on the rear cross tube near the spring shackles, A very good poke and a good tap round with a hammer failed to find any more and short term will be easy to weld but long term I need to think about replacing the tube. Any one made a new one of these? on first inspection it dosnt look to complex (famous last words) and the shackles them selves seem to be sound so has any one got any advice or been down this road before, the body its self has had some very good repairs in the past which are sound and this seemed to have involved dropping the cross tube so the floor pan and mounting points apear to be in good condition too.
