The persistant drain on the battery has been found *- it's the wiper motor - see my subsequent new post.

Could it be the gearbox/parking mechanism that's stuck!

We have found the battery leakage !! It's the windscreen motor which has power going to it even when ignition is off! It doesn't work/operate, but it warm to the touch. Disconnecting the wires solves the battery leakage. But how to remove it for inspection/repair. There doesn't seem to be much info....

Oh just thought ... are the bolts brass or steel?

The car is NEGATIVE earth. And the workshop manual seems to say it was built like that in 1937.

We now have the petrol pump repaired, etc. and the engine running again - Hooray! But it's still not driveable anywhere as there seems to be a drain on the battery when the ignition is OFF. "Is it possible to remove the sump without removing the filter cover and filter first? It'll be easier to get the cover off with the sump on the bench"?
