Re: overheating control box
If you have had the regulator cutout stick this will cause the 30+ amp discharge when you turn the engine off. If you have an ammeter and have noticed that this has gone into full discharge immediately restart the engine, this should bring the discharge down to zero. If you are unlucky when you turn...

Re: Installing running board rubbers
I have noticed, over the years, that when people have put rubber on their running boards there have been some issues with bubbling of the rubber. Some of this is because they have not covered the metal completely or haven't got good adhesion so when the car is stood in the sun the heat causes expans...

Re: Rover-Sunbeam?
A friend of mine, who belongs to the Sunbeam Talbot Darracq club, sent me this link http://www.vlib.us/medical/ambulnce/ambulnce.htm . The club magazine published an article about this in 2008. If you follow the link and scroll down the page you will find a photo of the last surviving Rover Sunbeam ...

Re: Worrying Experience
Wooden framed coachwork or all metal bodies will get looser and weaker with age, due to flexing. This then causes the doors to gape in certain situations such as driving on rough road or cornering. Some of the problem can be that the chassis needs attention. Often overlooked are the road leaf spring...

Help on the Forum
Chis mentioned the Nesthill pipe clips, which were to the original pattern. It is good that people post useful sources on the Forum. I found a source of Nesthill type clips to a modern pattern and made in stainless steel, of course you need to get the right size clip for the job because they only ac...

Re: Petrol Tank Sender Unit and Dashboard Gauge
I have been messing about with these for many years, I haven't yet found one I couldn't repair. At the tank end it is quite common for one wire to blow if someone has accidentally fed 12 volts through it, this is usually quite obvious once you unscrew the lid on the top as the wire will be missing f...

Re: End of MOT for pre 1960 cars?
I agree with regular MOT's. I also believe that if a car has undergone a major overhaul, especially if this involves steering, brakes or suspension, it should undergo a SVT test. Such an overhaul is no different to building a kit car, and these must be tested before they can go on the road. I have k...

Further thoughts on the drag link failure
I think there is need to elaborate on the misgivings I had on the replacement drag link. There is more than one fault that could accelerate and/or cause this failure: • The standard ball joint used probably increases the distance between the bend in the rod and the position where the rubber bushed e...

Safety issues
This topic is a sore point with me, I have been trying to get my views across for years, but several attempts to get them published in the relevant magazines have failed. Guy Worrall's problems with his drag link are another instance of many similar ones I have seen over the last 50 years. From the ...
