Setting float height.
Hello All, I have been struggling to get my 1948 Rover 75 to pick up cleanly from idle. I thought i had found the problem when I discovered the fuel level in the carburretor bowl was 25 mm below the upper edge. The only information I can find indicates 12mm for most Solex but I can't find a value sp...

Vacuum Port Solex 30 PAAI
Hello all, I'm hoping you can give me some advice regarding my 1948 Rover P3 75. I have been having trouble getting the engine to pick up cleanly from idle when the throttle is opened. Having originally suspected the accelerator pump jets, I've invested in a nice 'new' reconditioned Solex PAAI dual ...

Re: Short circuit across points
Tony, Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a comprehensive reply. I think you may be correct, I'm fooling myself and not thinking things through correctly. Since I posted, I decided to have Martin Jay at the Distributor Doctor rebuild my distributor. It may not be the cause of the poor...

Short circuit across points
Hello all, my 1948 P3 is misfiring and I have been looking at confirming the timing is correct. I was puzzled to discover that although the engine does run, I still seem to have continuity across the contact breaker points when holding them apart with the probes of my multimeter. Removing a wire or ...

Re: Faulty Ignition Switch?
It really adds up doesn't it? Very surprising for a simple switch. I've now managed to extract the starter / key switch from the dash, and my suspicions appear correct, my multimeter tells me that it is possible for the key to pass through the 'ON' position to a point where it is intermittent. I'm h...

Re: Faulty Ignition Switch?
Thanks luli, once I get the switch out I will assess if resoldering is a possibility. It would be nice if that was the case. I seem to have reliable cranking on the button, so the high power contacts are probably OK, it's the low-power key operated contacts I am suspicious of. Thanks for your help, ...

Re: Faulty Ignition Switch?
Many thanks to luli and djm16. I will begin a little investigation this afternoon, but I fear I am dealing with the original wiring loom, so I might be opening a can of worms! I have gently prised out the dashboard and removed the ammeter, so can now see the ignition switch reasonably well, so can n...

Faulty Ignition Switch?
Hello Everybody, I need to pick your brains a bit if you don't mind. Last Sat my 1948 Rover 75 suddenly ground to a halt on the way to a local show. It was a sudden cut out, rather than any spluttering, so electrics rather than fuel were suspected. A passing mechanic kindly joined in, and we did all...

Re: Wiring to steering column dipswitch
Hi Phil, I think I might just do that. A peek in the footwell shows just about enough room to fit a foot dipswitch, and I must say that, going by luli's pictures, the steering boss dipswitch looks somewhat under-engineered by Rover's usual standards, especially since it carries the current directly....

Re: Wiring to steering column dipswitch
Wow, more complicated than I thought! Many thanks 47p2 and luli for your replies. I think for the moment I will check all other options first, and leave the dipswitch as the last resort. To be honest, I rarely use the car at night, but would like to get it through an MOT. I would be more inclined to...
