Re: rewire on the books

Willem, COA is in great original condition so any changes depend on how closely you want to stick with that. Autosparks can provide a wiring loom to original or original/modified spec. When I re-wired my Tourer I opted for some small mods that facilitated an electric SU fuel pump, a Dynamator (alter...

Re: Rover 10 rear suspension

John, Great to have the history of a car and how impressive that it covered 200k miles! Given no recent changes have been made to the springs, the ride and operation of the suspension should not be impacted by the figment of new lower bump stops other than the loss of metallic banging that could hav...

Re: Rover 10 rear suspension

Hi, I know it makes sense that the spring should allow upward and downward for a smooth ride. This is more the case with coil springs and even more so with a hydro-pneumatic set up that used to be fitted on some Citroens. However, leaf springs are far more basic which is why few, if any, luxury car ...

The Rover Tourers Book

All, As some of you will be aware, a new book has been written by Howard Jones about Rover Tourers 34-48. Having supplied a few pictures to Howard for the book and exchanged some emails, I know how much detailed research has gone into this piece of work. My wife bought me a copy as a birthday gift a...

Re: 1934 Rover 12 sadly selling

Len, I would like to echo Rob’s comments and say how enjoyable it’s been following your restoration. The past year has been an odd one and your regular updates and enquiries have involved us considerably in your endeavours, giving us something positive to think about. As such, all the more sad that ...

Re: 1934 Rover 12 Petrol tank

Len,

It must be modified such that fuel can only glow up the longest pick up pipe. The short one must be sealed or you will be sucking air once you get to the reserve fuel.

Re: 1934 Rover 12 Petrol tank

Len,

Looking at the picture again, the LHS ‘pipe’ is actually the operating rod for the reserve. The RHS pipe goes to the engine bay.

Re: P1 carburettor oiling

Willem, The downdraft SU has no damper as, clearly, the oil would run out. As such, lack of oil has less impact than it would with the more common side draft SU where you need the oil for the piston and needle to move in relation to the damper. With the air filter removed you should be able the move...

Re: 1934 Rover 12 Petrol tank

Len, Yes, the unit will unscrew from the tank. However, I think you will find that only one of them is a fuel pipe. The other is the mechanism for switching the reserve. I could be wrong as it's six years since I looked at mine! Have you traced the pipes to the engine bay? I'd be surprised if you ha...

Re: 1934 Rover 12 Petrol tank

Len, If your car is like my P1 Tourer then you should have a gauze covered pick up in the tank to filter the fuel. There are two pipes within the pick up; one for normal use and one that is longer for the reserve. The change over from normal to reserve is achieved by pulling a knob located outside t...
