Re: Recent travels

Earth strap fitted. All now working as it should.
Drove the car to North Shropshire on Thursday (nice sunny day). Did not use the motorway, but up the A 51 etc. Busy road, but traffic kept up with me ☺☺. No problems, the new (2022) radiator almost over cools the engine in winter (60-70C) !

Re: Rewinding a fuel reserve solenoid

Well, for a new solenoid, steel parts re-plating, pressure testing for cracks in the tubes, reassembly and test etc about £200!... A new one is about £500 from them  Maybe a Christmas present to myself! perhaps a glass panel in the boot floor so it can be gazed at in wonder! Luli said he just...

Re: Rewinding a fuel reserve solenoid

I have taken the easy way out and taken my dismantled unit to Four Ashes Garage (who are a couple of miles from me). They have remade them for (primarily) DB Aston Martins ( and price the accordingly) They also do them to suit Rover, Bristol, Armstrong etc
I am nervouslwaiting for an estimate....😲

Can anyone suggest a company that can/will rebuild the solenoid in the Lucas Reserve fuel unit?

Re: Starter motor 12 tourer p2

Sorted! All revealed in the Travels section (should have said travails perhaps!) The Starter motor had moved in the housing because the locating bolt was being used as a clamp and the starter had moved backwards. Locate it in the right place with the dog point in the locating hole...all good. Simples!

Re: Recent travels

At the NEC on the RSR stand I asked the question & it was pointed out that the engine to chassis earth strap might be missing... sure enough no sign of a strap! Connected the engine to the chassis by using a jump cable.....ALL IS GOOD :D Possibly the old worn engine mountings were acting as an earth...

Re: Recent travels

Got a bit sidetracked! Managed to open up the replacement reserve pick up, the solenoid leads were crumbly and shorting as the solenoid windings filthy! The mechanical bits were full of crud, but look ok...they are going in the ultrasonic cleaner. Then solder on new leads and see if it works! The cu...

Re: Starter motor 12 tourer p2

A Good Day! I loosened off the bracket to remove the motor as per the Manual and also noticed the motor appeared to be loose in the bracket, so withdrew the locking bolt. I did not know (then) that this should fit in a hole in the dynamo casing, so moved the motor forward., tightened it up And it wo...
