Re: Ignition timing
Thanks for the helpful answer. The distributor I have is the correct one, and new old stock,so there is no wear at all. I am sure I can get hold of a vacuum gauge, so that will be my route. I have not used one before, so a new experience. I too am familiar with manual advance/retard on Austin Sevens...

Re: Ignition timing
There is no vacuum control on the distributor, so if I get hold of a vacuum gauge what do I do with it....? fit it to the manifold lubricator take off ??? Apologies for ignorance!

Re: Engine Mounting replacement 12 tourer
I already have the rubbers! so might as well use them. Now to look at Luli's blog before I start! Maybe I have to take front wheels off? maybe not. I will have a go at taking the weight of the engine on a suitably rigid /load spread jack and then free off the 7/16 centre bolt & take the engine brack...

Re: Ignition timing
Clamps all good. The looseness appears to be in the drive...drive slot perhaps. As the distributor is new. I'll put up with it!

Re: Engine Mounting replacement 12 tourer
Thank you ! I can only make Malvern & the Dinner on Saturday I shall think about the mountings. ..I too had a look -the upper bit looks ok, but is not under real load. I expect they will be like the rear spring buffers...looks easy, but needs patience, cursing and more patience First thing will be t...

Engine Mounting replacement 12 tourer
Can this be done "in Situ"?
I am pretty sure my engine has dropped in the past 75 odd years, and the starting handle doesn't line up
How difficult is it?
Loosen / remove the bolts, Lift the engine on a jack (having drained the radiator to remove the hoses?)
Replace!
Simples! or not??

Re: Ignition timing
Thanks Luli...very impressive that 123 system. Did you measure performance "before and after"? or subjectively does it feel better. At the moment, having fitted a NOS distributor of the correct type I just want to know where to set it to suit E5 99 octane fuel! I will also check the clamp again to m...
