1905 Rover Bicycle

Post by geoffpw » Wed Jul 22, 2009 10:09 am

I have a Rover bicycle which I am told is from 1905ish, how can I confirm this? Does anyone know of a website that could help? I know about the Veteran Bicycle Club but have to join to get info. I will be happy to join if my bike turns out to be authentic.

Hi Geoff,

Your best bet is to talk to someone like Mike Couldry who knows a lot more about the cycles than most of us. I have a book by John Pinkerton at home with illustrations of the the badges, they changed quite a lot over the years and are a good indicator of approximate age but I am not at home to look it up.

Best of luck with your research,

Thanks for your reply. I am pleased to say that I have found the bike on http://www.oldbike.eu" target="_blank. It is a 1903 Meteor No.2, now I have cleaned the badge properly I can see the detail! However seems to suggest that only gents bikes were made as No.2's and production stopped in 1904. My bike is a ladies that looks just the same as a 1910 bike. any help would be appreciated.
