1934 Rover 12 SU carb rebuild

Post by digcot65 » Sat Jun 19, 2021 4:31 pm

Hello I`ve just bought the rebuild kit for my carb. finished fitting it and basically set the carb up.Centered needle and set the jet so its flush with the bridge, and unscrewed the jet adjusting nut one and a half turns. I`ve refitted the carb, the engine starts quickly and next job is to get it warm and tune it up. However I noticed that the throttle control lever has no effect,as even when the knob is pulled out,it still fails to contact the arm controlling the butterfly.Should it be set so that it just touched the butterfly lever when not pulled out ,so moving the butterfly lever straight away, if it pulled.Hope the photos show what I mean, you can see it not operated and even operated it has no effect .

Hello sorry I forgot to add,is there a recommended gap between the two faces in photo 2,with the throttle knob not pulled out ?

Len,

I doubt there is a prescribed way to set up the throttle lever. Adjust it so it works with a small amount of free movement to ensure the cable pushes it fully home when not required.
