Post by kevin078 » Sun Feb 17, 2013 4:55 pm

Hello All.I hope I have managed the link to two photos.

I am trying to date this Rover engine. After 1929 a distrubitor was used in place of a magneto. This engine is complete with a gear box,but under a pile of junk so very difficult to photograph.

Regards

Kevin.

I suspect it is a 9/20, or very early 10/25. The engine has a standard cylinder head, and the block detaches from the crankcase. I well remember helping to load one of those crankcases onto the rear luggage grid of a 10/25 Weymann at the Belvoir rally one year. It departed for home with very light steering and headlamps pointing skywards!

Definitely a 10/25, 1928/9. The engine no stamped on the top of the timing chain area of the ally crankcase will give a better idea. The obvious visual difference from the 9/20 is that the 9/20 had three rectangular holes in the crankcase over the flywheel, which would have been visible in one photo.
