Pilot front axle

Hi, I'm presently stripping my 1933 14hp Pilot chassis, it's almost ready to go for blasting. This car had no front axle on it when we collected it many years ago but Harry Johnson had an axle that he thought came off one of these cars and it fitted so it has been on the car ever since. Closer inspection shows it to have the correct hydraulic brake cylinders but it also has Luvax fittings. To the best of my knowledge the only Rover cars that had Luxax were P2s but they did not have hydraulic brakes. Anyone got any ideas what this axle actually belongs to?

Hi Stewart,

didn't the 1934/5 14 have hydraulic brakes?

I'm not sure Paul but did it have Luvax? My 1934 10 didn't, I think Luvax came in 1935.

I can confirm that luvax was added for the 1935 model year on the 10hp.

You could well be right Paul. According to the P2 workshop manual the 1934 and 1935 14 and Speed 14 had hydraulic brakes but the section on chassis lubrication says that Luvax came in for 1935. So it is possible that this axle originated on a 1935 14hp, it's the only car and year that fits both requirements.

You can clearly see here: http://www.rover-forum.thersr.co.uk/vie ... 7&start=10 A 1935 14 with both hydraulic brakes and chassis lubrication together.

Hi Stewart,
Sorry for the delayed response. I've had a look in my 1935 brochure and as has already been suggested Luvax was available on all models for that year. The hydraulic brakes were however only on the 14hp so it would suggest that your axle must be off one of those.
Regards
Paul

Hi Stewart,
You may remember my old red 14 Sport 1935 CPA 777 I use to come to lake district 40 years ago
had luvax & hyd. brakes, I think hyd. brakes were first used on the 10 special ?.
Cheers Jeff.

Hi Jeff, remember those days, I'm just sorry that I didn't have my 1934 10 on the road at the time, 40 years ago, scary! I think you are right about the hydraulic brakes starting on the 10 Special and the only cars that appears to have had both hydraulics and Luvax was 1935 14, so that would fit in with your car. Where is it now? All the best.

Hi Stewart,
I sold my old 14 when I was on strike in 84, it went down South London,
but I think it came back to Yorkshire, to Keighley area.
Cheers Jeff.
