1934 Rover 12 Actual age

Post by digcot65 » Thu Feb 11, 2021 9:23 am

Good morning,my Rover 12 is listed in the V5 as a 1934 12 .However when I ordered an outlet from the top of the rad,I was asked for the chassic number and since it starts with a 5 ,I was told it was a 1935 model. Is there much difference between the model years .There seems to be a slight difference in the wiring diagrams in the workshop manual It would be interesting to know,in the V5 it says manufactured in 1934 I`m waiting for the Rad outlet casting,in the meantime I have started to polish the paintwork with Farecla and a power polisher, this was after flatting the paintwork with 1500 wet and dry .Along job both flatting and polishing, but the longer it takes the better the result Len

P2 engine and chassis numbers

5 in the first position of the chassis number means it was a 1935 season car. The season usually ran from August the previous year, starting after the Factory annual shutdown so that new models were available at the October Motor show at Earls Court or Olympia. So a late 1934 registration date is quite normal for a 1935 season car. However, for at least some models, the 1940 season seems to have started in June 1939. Could it be that factories were placed on warning that war was likely?

The practice of aligning engine number with chassis number changed from early in the 1939 season.

Regards

Mike
