Differential Drain plug Seal
My 47 P2 (16) is leaking oil from the drain plug. Obviously the plug and seal need attention but without stating the obvious, before I attend to this “small” job any caution advise from you many experts out there much appreciated. Also what is the correct oil to replace and refill. I have the Castrol type from days gone by but need to confirm what would the appropriate oils to use now. Thanks

Re: Differential Drain plug Seal
EP90 GL4 is best to use as can also be used in the gearbox.

Re: Differential Drain plug Seal
Get a new crush washer. If 90 et isn’t available (hard to find here in Canada at times, EP 80W90 or 75W90 or some extreme pressure gear oil. Same stuff as in the Series Land-Rover Diffs

Re: Differential Drain plug Seal
Hi Phil, I’m about to refill my ‘37 12 diff so your advice re oil comes at a good time. However, I’m sure I’ve read on these pages that EP oil contains additives that can harm the bronze parts of the diff /gearbox. Easier to buy though so I’d value your experience on this.
Thanks
Tony.

Re: Differential Drain plug Seal
As Phil said 90 GL4 is the right stuff - it wouldn't attack the bronze parts. However, Penrite 40 is most recommended, made especially for cars like ours.
Re: Differential Drain plug Seal
Thanks for the confirmation on that. I’ve got straight 40 grade Castrol oil in my Tourer gearbox and diff, but I’ve run out of that now and will be needing something for my Saloon. I now know what options I have.
Thanks again.

Re: Differential Drain plug Seal
Thanks all for input. Luli, you mentioned Penright 40. I have Penright GB 40 I used for Gear Box hence the GB. I presume therefore I can use what I have in my stores to refill diff.
