Remote oil filters

Post by David2021 » Mon Jun 14, 2021 5:14 pm

In the club workshop manual there is reference to the occasional fitting of a remote external oil filter to supplement the gauze strainer.
Does anyone have information about this? For a 1948 12 tourer.
I have found pictures & discussion on this topic from 2010 & 2016....has anyone done this more recently??

David, as you may have seen, quite a complex subject.

AC ZS1 (Rover part no 216322) was fitted to 20hp saloons up to 1940 and was an option on other models. It was also fitted to Series 1 Land Rovers. Similar ones were fitted to MG TC/TD

See:-https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/serie ... oil+filter
or https://mg-parts.co.uk/index.php?route= ... l%20filter
or https://www.mgexp.com/forum/t-series-an ... 5.4315836/

Hope this helps

First, drain the oil. Look under the car at the offside of the sump. There is a large brass cover with a hexagon. Use the hexagon to unscrew the cover and withdraw it and the filter from the engine. You may be able to contrive a scraper to remove the crud from the sump. To clean the filter (really only a strainer) I used kerosene. A large container to hold the kero and filter helps with cleaning.

Hope this helps
