You may have already done this but, if not, I suggest draining all the petrol from the tank and running the engine until it stops to ensure there is little or no fuel left in the system. Then refill with a couple of gallons of E5.

I have found in recent years that unleaded fuel deteriorates quickly in the open vented tank on my Rovers resulting in poor combustibility. Also, there is a greater chance of water contamination. Newly purchased fuel will be clear in colour, whereas the drained fuel is often very discoloured.

After the winter lay-up or even if the car hasn’t been used much for a couple of months, I drain the petrol tank and use new fuel. It makes a huge difference.
