Hello,
I am having the problem of fumes in cabin of Rover P2 Sports Saloon 1946 and so far no one has been able to identify the cause.
They are not extreme but after say half an hour they effect me slightly - dry mouth and headache etc. Passengers barely notice but agree.
The engine has been properly rebuilt and the body fully restored. It is virtually as new except the original interior which has been renovated to a degree. I do need new carpets as they are rather worn. the engine compartment is not producing noticeable fumes.
I have tried the following:
1 Extended exhaust pipe - definitely no leaks in the new stainless steel exhaust system
2 Ensured as far as possible boot is well sealed
3 Floor boards - wooden - at front are not great and in need of replacement - not badly and there are no obvious leaks - but I have sealed edges with tape.
4 The carburetter has been completely reconditioned.
I have not tried using a smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector in the saloon.
Has anyone else had this problem and how did they solve it?

The exhaust manifold on this model are prone to leaking and if it is will cause fumes in the cab

How good is the gearbox cover? Does it has the two caps (for topping up and for the dipstick) on it? Are you sure there is no petrol leak anywhere along the line?
