Luvax diaphragm and dashboard

Post by apkok » Sat Dec 01, 2012 9:07 pm

Hi,

In common with many other P2 owners I am in the process of sorting out the chassis lubrication system. Most of the pipework is intact, with the exception of the steering where grease nipples have been fitted. I've read several articles on replacing the pipework, meter valves, etc. so am reasonably familiar with those elements. However, before I got too involved I decided I should check that oil is being pumped from the reserviour. I disconnected the pipe between the reserviour and the first union at the union end and ran the engine, varying the revs to see the result. I am aware that this is a low pressure system but at best all I got was the odd drop of oil. I wasn't expecting oil to gush out but I was hoping to see a steady stream/trickle. I can feel good vacuum at the reserviour side of the filter assembly so, presumably, that seems OK. Should I assume that the diaphragm needs replacing, or is there possibly another explanation please?

Changing the subject, can anyone advise me on the correct procedure for removing the dashboard. I only need to move it far enough to gain access to the wiper wheelboxes in order to fit spindle rubbers. I know some owners have managed to replace these rubbers externally and I have tried that approach without success. The gap between the spindle and circumference of the hole is just too tight to get the rubber through.

Any advice on the above will be gratefully received.

Thanks very much, Alan

Hello,

It is quite possible that the diaphram needs replacing,..... a lot do. Meteor Spares supplies these and have a replacement service also. Not a tricky job, but it is important to get the tension about right for it to work properly.

To remove the diaphram, the rim needs easing back a bit at a time, replace and then reseal the rim. I have replaced two with great sucess.

The oil flow should be obvious, but not gushing.

Another reason may be a stuck uni-directional valve (there are two). For diagnosis, and priming, I am using a small hand-held vacuum pump and gauge
