Really period especailly the P2!

My dads first car was a Phase 1 Standard Vanguard 1950 he bought for £30 in 1964. I am certain the grille on the one pictured did not come out til 1951

I thought that the rear window on the Phase 1 was in two sections very like the early Beetles, and there were two different sizes of rear window.
The grilles on the Phase 1 changed at least twice in the production run which finished in1952 when the Phase 2 came in.
This confirms the one in the film is a Phase 1.

Thanks Phil, I started reading the latest Freewheel magazine and got as far as the Stone of Destiny article but have not managed to read it yet. I have been too busy trying to press on with the new garage. Hopefully I will get a quiet half hour tonight to read the article

I just clicked the link you supplied Phil, I never realised it went to my version of the film.

The cars used in the film were sadly not all period. The Armstrong was a 1952 model and there were others which were younger than they should have been. For the gneral public who will not be able to tell one car from another that's fine but for anyone who knows there classics I think they may feel a little cheated. I remember hearing that one of the Ford Groups had been in touch with the film makers as the 2 Fords that were used were also the wrong cars.
I have not yet seen the film, I missed it when it was showing at Glasgow and last weekend I checked to see where it was showing, Isle of Harris or Hawick, so I guess I will just have to wait until it comes out on DVD before I get to see it

The beetle back 6 light Phase 1 had at least 3 distinct forms during its run - my dads was the middle one with the multibar (rusty) chrome grill, double dip headlights, separate front sidelights (like later P4's) rear wheel spats and flat V bonnet mascot. Ithought they all had rear screens of one piece as my 1947-49 British Cars of the Late 40's (Haynes) book pictures these. The 47- 49 cars virtually all went for export though so are the rarest in the UK.

The Phase 2 had the 4 light notch back with the later simple bar grill with flying plane bonnet mascot - I have not got the 1950-55 book to check though
