Two different Rovers snapped yesterday

Post by dorsetflyer » Mon Dec 22, 2008 8:43 pm

The following two Rovers attended a Christmas Gathering at the Sun Inn at Dorchester yesterday lunchtime.
The Grey Rover belongs to Mark alias rover p5, and the Green and Black one belongs to Mark Kirby.

Great pictures, I think I am correct in saying both cars are 12hp's from 1938 but the black car being an early 38 model

I think from memory the 'Black and Green' Rover is 1936. The Grey one is 1938 and I think has a larger engine.

According to the DVLA website the black car was first registered on 26/04/1938 and has a 1465cc engine

The grey car was first registered on 12/09/1938 and has a 1500cc engine (it should be 1496cc)

All very nice indeed - wish we could have got our 16 out yesterday - its not moved since beginning of September for various excuses  yesterday had to finish putting together our P5B front suspension after repacing the radius arm bushes for its MOT today - it did pass though.

Will make a point driving the 16 over the Christmas break if the roads are not salty and dry assuming it will start

Yes must do as in 11 months to November have only done 296 miles in it - although motoring mileage well down overall anyway.

It may just make over 7k for the year and that is for both of us, and I do go to work in them - but not the 16 anymore as roads too conjested

Expensive luxury or what?

I still think its better having our, now 7, usable classics than one new modern car be it economically, practicality and enjoyability?

Afternoon all
Yes great photos and glad to see the owners braving the December elements, well done to them both.
Both cars have been known to the RSR under several ownerships during the last 30/35 years.

BXP 667 is a 1935 12 saloon chassis no. 512083, the vertical bonnet louvres confirm this. According to the archives it was 'found' out in the open in a 'very sorry state' in 1972 and was restored over the next 3 years by the then owner, and was last in the RSR about 20 years ago. Anyone with old back numbers of Freewheel will find a photo of it in FW 220 April 1990.

GPL 201 is a 1939 12 saloon chassis no 911438, it was up for sale on ebay Oct 08 with recent £1600 service!!! asking price £7,950. First in the RSR back in 1971 when described as 'in need of total restoration', subsequently restored and described as cond B in 1983, last in the RSR 10 years ago.

Regards

I am led to believe that both cars should be attending the RSR National at Sparkford in 2009.
