i am in need of a diff for my 47 12 Tourer, anybody know if the series or early discovery is the same, they are 10 spline

The early series will fit - but it is 22 mm shorter and you will need to sort this issue out. See also here : http://www.rover-forum.thersr.co.uk/vie ... diff#p9667
I have a spare 1:4.88 diff, but as you know, shipping will be expensive...

I have a complete 1939 16hp rear axle if that is any use to you

thanks for the replies, you are both a long way from me i will wait and see if i can get one a bit closer
as for the series one diff being short i have a series one 2 litre engine in my car and it is a bit longer than the standard engine and the prop-shaft is close up to the gearbox flange the 22 mm might help that situation

so will the early Discovery diff fit the series one?

All Rover 10 spline diffs. will fit BUT! the V8 ratio is high & the later 4x4s have a big lump
cast on with 2 tapped holes for bracket, and as the oil filler is in the axle most diffs don't
have filler/level plug.

the one on ebay is a long way again from me but in cornwall we have a lot of LR

the v8 has a higher ratio that would mean less top end??

There are a number of suitable diffs in the RSR stores that are near Kenilworth in Warwickshire. How soon do you need the diff?
