Good evening all, I am hoping that someone can give me some guidance on how to oil the SU carb on my newly acquired P1 Tourer, if the oil has to go into the correct hole I might have to find a steep bank to park side on to get some oil in..
I hope my question makes some sense.

Any help will be much appreciated. Will

Hello if its the same SU horizontal carb.as on my 1934 12hp,then just lift the small cap on the side of the chamber and add a few drops in .It isnt the same as the vertical ones, where you add quite a bit of oil I use 3in1 and it seems fine Len

Willem,

The downdraft SU has no damper as, clearly, the oil would run out. As such, lack of oil has less impact than it would with the more common side draft SU where you need the oil for the piston and needle to move in relation to the damper. With the air filter removed you should be able the move easily the piston with a long screwdriver and see it return smoothly. As Len said, a few drops of oil via the oil filler is all that's required.
