It is plausible that in the factory the whole body, firewall included, will be painted in the same colour. HEre are some shots from my tourer:

Nothing to do with paint! Hi jacking the thread!
I see you have a heat shield under the carburettor...I can only see one mounting bolt(?) does it rest om the manifold or what?
My car has one under the SU fuel pump, but I am intending to make one up to go between Carb & Manifolds...preferably easy to remove!
Any tips?
David

The heat shield is standard on the 16HP model. It is not necessary on the 4 cylinders model and seldom used. What is useful on these models is to move the petrol pipe away from the exhaust side of the chassis to the othe side, SU pump included. That solves the vapour locks issue once and for all.

From memory the heatshield isn't in direct contact but sits just above the manifold. It is held in place with the one single bolt and the 4 studs that hold the carburettor on

Thank you for taking & posting those pictures. I have to remove my carburettor to replace a leaky "heat spacer"(what IS it called?) that causes occasional discreet pops on the overrun! I will make up a suitable shield and will add to it some heat reflective/absorbent material left over from putting it on the shield under the SU pump. I had no problems with fuel vaporising last summer even when everything got pretty hot under the bonnet on the Autobahn. When I got the car the SU was on the inside of the bulkhead & I was not keen on having the pump inside the car, so put it back in it's original position.
