Post by SXL01 » Tue Oct 20, 2015 12:55 pm

Hi I have just registered and am new to this forum and I am interested in purchasing a P3. Have seen two ,one on carandclassic down in Bixhil and one just come on line,e-bay, in Diss South Norfolk Garages, same place as the blue P2. My question is.. do the P3's come with 3 speed or 4 speed gearboxs? Is there someone in the club I could contact re info on the P3? My e-mail address is s.j.lynam@btinternet.com
Regards
Thanks Sean.

Hi Sean, Welcome to the forum. The P3 has a 4 speed box with freewheel facility.

Do any of the members here know this P3? or anyone here willing to take a look at the car to help out a new member looking to get into Rovers as he stays too far away to view it, but is willing to pay with beer tokens and/or expenses incurred

Hi - don't know if I'm too late on this post but went to see this P3 in Norfolk myself a couple of weeks ago :) Overall not in bad nick, chrome is very nice. However, there were some issues for us for the price: paintwork had some blemishes and slight cracking in places; underside had no protection - no waxoil etc - had a look underneath but couldn't see much without it being on a ramp.
Front windscreen seal shot. Sunroof seized. Carpets were a kit and wanted re-doing in my opinion (fraying in places especially around gear stick). There was also a piece of metal sticking up through the floor in the middle of the rear seats! Don't know what that was about. The seats and headlining had been done. Wood & glass was in good condition. Didn't start up first time, couldn't hear the fuel pump ticking on turning the key. When I started it and it died the man said "oh yeah that confused me, you have to turn the key and leave it for 5 minutes then come back and start it." May be just the fuel pump needs replacing.

I thought this would be a garage that bought cars and then did them up and sold them on...however this is a middleman - he just buys at auctions and then just sells them straight on. He had no knowledge and no history of the car. For just short of £12,000 not sure.

I don't know what it would cost to ship a car from Oz to UK, but there's a nice P3 at http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/melbourn ... 1091322377. Needs a carb rebuild because the owner tried to fettle it and buggered it up, but it's a nice looking, no-rust six-light (AUD$11,000 equates to STG5,500)
Just a thought.......

At nearly £12K this Norfolk P3 doesn't sound like a good buy to me. For that kind of money, classic clara, I would expect to be presented with a car with which it was difficult to find fault. This one doesn't appear to fit that description.

Hi classicclara , better late than never may be the answer here. I was looking at this one, see posts above. Needless to say Rob (dealer) didn't send any photos as requested for the underneath and couldn't tell me any history. When I enlarged the photos I felt there was something about the rear nearside wing that didn't look quite right, maybe it was the light!! I eventually found someone who could look at it, a Riley owner, but he was beaten to it and the car was sold.
classicclara your accessment is comprehensive enough to deter me from a purchase for that amount of money, a well better luck next time,ta.
Does anyone know about the 6 light for sale on carandclassic down in Bexhill on Sea??

Sorry I didn't see this post earlier! :) I wonder who the new owner is? EU 9404 will have to look out for it. That's what I thought - for £12,000 it should have been in near-perfect condition. If you can buy off a seasoned Rover owner seems the best way of getting a car in decent nick.

At £9750 this car if true to it's listing on Car and Classic looks good. Lot of work gone on it. Need to assess the micro-blistering on the paint and how much it bothers you - depends what you want the car for. If it does bother you, you'll have to take a respray price into account if and when you make an offer.
