P3 75 low oil pressure

I have a 1948 P3 75. When starting the engine from cold the oil pressure is about 40 when idling and revving the engine. For the first half hour the oil pressure remains at about 40 both when driving and idling. After half an hour the oil pressure starts falling, so that after an hour the pressure is about 5 - 10 when idling and about 15 - 20 at 35 mph in top gear. The engine runs fine even after an hour and the temperature remains steady at about 77 degrees. The bearings have been checked an are OK. I have two questions:
1. Does anyone know what might be causing this fall in oil pressure and a remedy?
2. Is it potentially damaging the engine if it is driven with this low oil pressure?
Thanks for any responses.

What grade of oil are you using?
