P4 Radial tyre pressures

Post by achandler » Sat Dec 11, 2010 9:56 pm

I have followed the other discussion regarding radial tyres on P4s with great interest, and decided to try a second-hand set on my car to see what difference it made. Admittedly these tyres are probably pretty old now, as I am not too sure when Dunlop stopped making 185SR15 SP tyres, but I found them a great improvement. The question arose what pressures should I run them at? I have started off at 30psi front and 28 psi back. Road noise is slightly higher, but the steering is much more precise and steering effort not meaurably worse. (I should know as my garage is at right angles to the drive, so needs at least 2 stabs at it to get in cleanly)
I dont intend to leave the car on 185x15 as they are very difficult to get here in New Zealand, the only tyres of that size generally available are van or 4WD tyres, so will probably go for a new set of 205/70x15. Any advise, and what pressures should they be run at.
Thanks everyone.

I find 30- 32lbs better all round - 205/70's same but they are really too wide and I have not tried them - they may foul inner wing on full lock and definitlely make the steering heavier and place more load on the TRE's as they do on power steered P5's

No chance of fitting in the spare wheel locker either

Hi Adrian,
I tend to run my Cyclops on around 30 -32 all round, and ran my 80 on about the same, probably nearer the 32 on that thinking about it.
