Clasic Rovers Remaining

Post by Philadelphia Rover » Wed Jan 13, 2010 3:30 am

Good evening Rover enthusiasts:

Please forgive me if this information is already posted somewhere and I have overlooked it. Please feel free to move the post where it belongs.

I am interested in learning the number of historic Rovers by model known to remain worldwide. Would RSR or the Veteran Car Club or another source have the most accurate records? Of particular interest to me is pre-war Rovers and single cylinder Rovers. (I do know that the P5 club is currently doing a worldwide census on P5's.)

I appreciate your courtesy and help!

Hi Rob,

This is a difficult one, what do you class as remaining? I am trying to track down all the remaining 14/45 and 16/50 cars. Worldwide there would appear to be 3 (or 4 if Chris Clayton has got his car through its MOT) roadworthy ones but there are at least as many again which are almost complete but not on the road. In addition there are a couple of chassis, some with engines, and various piles of parts that might make a car if all these parts were brought together. In total I think there may be as many as 20 chassis but only 7 almost complete cars. There are two others that we know of but cannot track down present owners.

That's the picture for these cars but once you start to look at all the other types of Rover there are so many different interpretations of what might count as an existing car that it will be difficult to get an accurate picture. One mans restorable car is another mans stock of saleable parts.

Best of luck with your quest.

Hi Rob,

I did try to find as many Rover '10' 1935 cars as I could, just the one model back in the 1980's , its very difficult to because lots of cars are still hiding in Barns and some are incomplete, used as chicken coupe's etc. and some owners are not in a car club. My ' Snowdrop ' was being used as a wedding hire car, the owner was not interested in classic cars only his photographic business and the ' 10 ' I have just bought on Ebay was also left at the back of a barn for years, and only came to light with the death of its elderly owner.
Best of luck, it would be a mammoth task but at least the internet is a useful medium . Regards Chris Dancey
