1939 Rover P2 14 number 1 cylinder position

I have a 1939 Rover p2 14, I am trying to check the timing, my T.D.C. is not showing when my 1 and 6 pistons are at the top, is it possible that my flywheel has been fitted wrong?

Do you see the TDC mark at all? If you do see it, the flywheel is fitted 180 degrees off. However, you can still time the engine by the valves overlap method. See more here:

I seem to recall (possibly from RSR workshop manual) that flywheels can be fitted 180* out to even up wear on the starter ring. However, the flywheel and crank were originally balanced together so doing this may impact smooth running but better than not being able to start it I suppose?

You are right, Tony. However, the balancing procedure is the following: first the flywheel, then the clutch is fitted on it, and only then they are attached to the crank. So that there is a good chance that after the 180 deg rotation it will still stay balanced.
