Happy Christmas to All Rover owners, :D Well anyway! here's a little query for Chistmas! Is there a system for the engine serial numbers , in particular, in my case for the Rover 12 Saloon? I have concluded that my engine is not the one fitted at birth so to speak, having tracked down a previous owner. I have studied both the Workshop Manual and Spares book diligently(?) and as many readers will know the subject of Chassis numbers is well documented but I can find no reference to engine numbers showing year , capacity etc. :o Well Best Wishes for Christmas and the New (Rovering) year. :D Thanks Trevor

P2 engine numbers are the same as the chassis number, if your has had another engine then obviously they will differ, but read the replacement engine number as if it were the chassis number.

Hi Tony , Well thank you very much! This earth shattering information means that my 12s engine is actually an older 10 engine! All of 107cc smaller and RAC rated 1.1 hp less which also means that max bhp at 44 is FOUR less than a 12. :) In reality it appears to be in good fettle and seems to me to go very well. And Hey I thought it was pretty good before finding out this dark  secret!! Thanks for this info which does now seem so obvious  Seasons Greetings Trevor
