Hi all

Some may know me already, I'm fairly active in the Series Land Rover circles but I also have a P4. One day fancy a P2 or 3 but haven't managed it yet!
My daily drive for the past 14 years has been my 1972 S3 88", but I also have a 1967 Carawagon (6-cylinder) and waiting in the wings for rebuild is a 1955 86" S1. The P4 we have is a 1960 80 which I have converted to 200tdi power - a superb vehicle for long distance travel on a budget!

I have also found myself getting very busy rebuilding Burman Douglas steering boxes, as a manual machinist who has worked on mainline steam for the past 11 years remaking obsolete components has become somewhat second nature!

Cheers!

Welcome to the Forum Calum, Interesting that you have converted an 80 and skills with Burman Douglas boxes could come in very handy with P2s and P3s!

Regards
Mike

Hi Mike

The 200tdi into an 80 is a relatively straightforward conversion. The engine bolts right up to the standard 80 gearbox (there are 4 studs on the flywheel housing need removing and counterboring, but the other studs all line up with the original gearbox). The original engine mounting brackets bolt across onto the new engine so no welding is needed. The sump is scalloped to clear the track rod and the oil filter is on a remote housing but otherwise a fairly simple install. It has a 3.54 diff fitted which it pulls with ease, and 50mpg is attainable without any effort at all. It hasn't been used much since before covid really for various reasons so its turn in the queue is coming up to get it back into shape and get using it again!
