Re: Long lost Photo
Hi,
thanks for your enquiry, I may be able to help a little.
The car is a Morris 10 Series II or possibly a 16 or 18, it is hard to say without a side view. If the car has wire wheels which I think it does this would indicate it was made before 1936 when a change to metal easiclean wheels occurred. The large spotlamp is not original, having replaced a standard smaller item and also there used to be a horn on the opposite side. The plates added to the radiator are to increase heating by muffling the radiator, this was common in the 30/40s when drivers did not use antifreeze or wanted the car to warm up quicker. The reg no ATF50 is not registered on any car at present, so it is highly likely the car does not exist.
The extra badges show it may have belonged to a car club so I would suggest you contact a Morris owners club if you want more information about the car. Maybe the morris register http://www.morrisregister.co.uk
As for the date of the photo I think you may be correct, the car is well used, the roads are empty and no sign of TV aerials on the houses so 40/early 50s is a good guess.
I am not an expert on Morris cars and maybe wrong,I hope the above helps

Hi there
I agree with Paul's comments and can further add that according to my old copy Glass's index of vehicle registration numbers the Reg prefix ATF was issued by the Lancashire licensing authorities between Feb and Apr 1936, and the low number of 50 would probably indicate the early part of the run.
Good luck with your enquiries via the Morris register.
Regards
Andrew
