Hi,
I'm looking for a boot badge for my 1946 10 saloon. Mine is corroded. Also looking for Autolube parts. Need all of the reservoir, manifold pipe etc. basically the whole shooting match from the pipework up. Luckily the pipework to the bulkhead is intact. Nigel

Re: Wanted Boot Badge and Autolube parts '46 P2
Hello Nigel,
I have a 47 tourer, it was restored by the previous owner and many things were left unfinished or done poorly.
I will be removing the autolube and putting in grease nipples at some stage as some areas are not connected. I need to find out the size and thread needed for the nipples then I will remove the whole system.
I have done some improvements including removing the horrible indicator lamps front and rear (which were a total bodge) and rebuilding the back bumper and lighting (another bodge).
In hind sight I should have looked at the car instead of relying on a car salesman and pictures.
Regards,
Gerry

Hi Gerry,
Your car looks lovely with only a few things to do! Wish I could say that about mine! I have a few tasks before I'm happy with mine. I would be very interested in your autolube system. Basically most of my pipework is intact right up to the bulkhead where it should join the reservoir. The reservoir and it's parts have all been stripped out. For sizes of thread see the article by Chris Dancey in the June issue of "freewheel" may be of use along with a forum topic on the subject. So please do let me know when it's available and what parts you have. As I have (I think) all of the pipework out to the lube points it's the reservoir and above that I'm interested in.
Thanks
Nigel

Don't be tempted to fix ' grease ' nipples to luvax points unless you intend to use oil...grease will only block the pipe and very little will get lubricated at all ! The oilways are too small to accommodate grease, so try to avoid if possible. Chris

Hi chris
My 46 10 saloon appears to have all of the autolube tubing and meter valves intact but is unfortuately missing the reservoir and pump assembly. On the engine bay bulkhead I've been left with the last union with a grease nipple attached. I'm assuming the previous owner either pumped oil through this or just grease with a standard grease gun. I read your article where you mentioned testing the system with an oil pump. Just wondering what you used to do that. Rigging up something myself may be a good stop gap whilst I try to source a reservoir etc. Appreciate any inputs you have. Intend to use oil but wondered the best "tool" for the job.
Thanks
Nigel

Hi Nigel,
I used a modern pump action grease gun with a flexible pipe and a grease nipple attachment. The gun is filled with straight gear oil and used just like you would for grease, I keep this gun for using oil only. Its a good idea to use the first union nipple as you describe, perhaps a shot before a journey and a few after if possible. On RR/ Bentleys, its normally one press of the pump pedal each time the driver alights the car. The Luvax pump and reservoirs are normally available from the usual suppliers and at times come up on ebay. Contact David Moseley ( RSR member ) he may be able to help, David also makes up the flexible pipes if any of yours are missing.
The first union normally has either a plug or a nipple...this is the union that I have just had made the ' tags ' for.
Mike Couldry refurbishes the diaphrams in the pump which is virtually the only part that needs replacement at some stage.

Hi Chris,
Sounds good. I'll pick myself up a spare grease gun and see how I get on. Intend to check out each lube point and see how much oil is getting through after a few pumps of the gun.
Thanks again
Nigel
