Hi Kartik,

The P3's stop/ tail and reverse lamps are Lucas type 464, the Lucas part number for the lamp in the UK is:- 53123. The P3 in the UK had a clear half frosted glass lens, part number:- 572656 It is shaped like this overall red lens on ebay. (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lucas-L464-Pl ... 1c1eab0aa2)

Each lamp has 2 bulb holders, so it is possible to have coloured stop & tail and flasher bulbs,(In the UK, red stop&tail and amber flashing turn signal bulbs are usual), although in the 1940's each stop and tail bulb had a transparent red coloured glass cap placed over it, so it showed red through the clear lens.

Lenses on cars that were exported may well have been red all over, and used 572876, for a double-bulb (stop-tail and flasher) lamp. If so, the lens should be "ruby; dished; two centre cones". That is the "export" lamp for Rover 60 & 75

The Lucas part number for that whole export lamp assembly is 53153, Overall dimensions of the lamp units are 4 3/4" x 2 1/8" (120.65mm x 53.975mm).

I guess the route you take depends on the lighting regulations in India, whether red or amber direction indicators are legal and whether you can find original clear lenses.

Hope that this helps

Regards

Mike

Kartik,

I just noticed that the rear lights on GWK451 are Lucas type 464 with an overall red lens (see http://www.rover-forum.thersr.co.uk/vie ... f=9&t=1320)

Regards

Mike

The correct home market ones are as rare as hen's teeth. One of mine was broken when I bought my car, it took over two years of searching to find a replacement and it wasn't cheap. The internet has come along since then and it is probably easier to search them out but I'm not sure that they will be any cheaper. Best of luck.

Thank you for your insightful posts Mike, they will help me a lot.
We donot have any regulations as such for vintage and classic cars in India,
and I would be fine with either of the examples, the home market ones or all red, as long as I can find a pair.

thanks

I just bought a pair of LEYLAND AEC SCAMMELL BRISTOL LUCAS 464 SIDELIGHTS ,
which I plan to use as Tail Lights on my P3

here is the ebay link

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEYLAND-AEC-S ... 6rk%3D1%26

These are the same as the Tail Lights for the P3 except that they have different lenses.

So if someone has a spare pair or even a single spare Tail light lens please let me know.

thanks
Kartik

They are not quite right, they should have two lamp holders but you should be able to modify them. I have been considering making new correct pattern clear lenses for a while now but have been too busy. They are difficult to obtain but with so few P3s about I'm not sure whether it will be worth my while.
