There have been plenty of P4 V-8 conversions in Australia. 4.4 litre Leighland P76 engines, Range Rover engines and SD1 engines are the most popular choices and an SD1 flywheel modified to take a Toyota clutch and a Hadfield bellhousing conversion to adapt a steel case Celica 5 speed gearbox is a typical solution. Just as much time will be spent adapting the speedo, the throttle and choke linkages, the fuel lines, exhaust pipes (watch out for the top of the steering box!) re-locating the oil filter, finding a suitable sump and modifying the tail shaft and transmission tunnel. The end result is not as pleasing as you might expect and the only real benefit is lighter steering which, in itself required a change in rear brake sleeve diameter and a pair of Rover 2000 coil springs. Absolutely far more fun, and much easier to complete, was a Mk2 suffix C 3 litre engine and a 3.5 ratio differential into a P4 100. You need to take it easy on the first gear of the original Rover 90 manual gearbox and Mk 2 and Mk 3 manual gearboxes seem to be very rare and should, in my opinion, be retained to keep the remaining Mk2 and Mk3 3 litre manual cars running. Happy Rovering, Robert.
