Good morning,sooner or later during the restoration,I am going to have the radiator cover rechromed.The workshop manual talks about removing the wings as well .Is there a simple way of removing the radiator cowling, Its also going to make spraying the wings more straight forward. Len

I`m not sure but can the chrome radiator cover be removed without taking the radiator itself out.I can see small nuts and bolts round the edged and it could be slipped over the headlamp brackets.Please has anyone been down this path Len

Yes, each side has four countersunk set screws with nuts on inside, as shown in picture you posted. You will have to remove or push aside the tape to get to the heads and take screws out. Two screws and nuts near hinge but you already have those off. Shell should lift off over filler.

Things can only get better,I didn`t realise ,there is also a bolt underneath the rad Ready to rechrome after I`ve removed a couple of small dents,then I can pop it into my chromers.Rad removed it`s going to make a much better job of spraying the front wings Len

Flatted wings and filled dents etc,but now with an undercoat on it shows every mark there is .So many more hours to get them as good as possible

All 4 wings were damaged,apparently the previous owner had a problem with poor steering and the result was there were arguments with posts.They had been welded up but the repair isn`t as good as it could be,there are raised sections where the welding has been done.So its going to be a case of getting it as good as possible,there is also a fair amount of filler on parts of the wings.Do get them perfect would be almost impossible,other than to remove each wing and rebuild it ,taking months work .

Hello ,the restoration is coming on slowly,I think I have finally finished repairing the 4 wings now in U/C .They had been damaged I believe by the previous owner hitting the gate posts.This was due to the poor steering,I having the box rebuilt,there was 4 inches play in the wheel.I`ve just started the roof as on most of the car,the paint has been laid on coat over coat and its cracking up all over the body.At least its giving me something to do during lock down . I`ve started to build a frame to make a "tent" to build the car in .Ive sprayed many cars in the garage,but even with plastic sheeting up dust is a nightmare ,so this should be better and cleaner.

Still waiting for the steering box to be restored.I did say there was no panic so no point in chasing them .Im going to remove what paint is required before I do any more spraying,even U/C Ive sprayed quite a few in the past in my garage but even with plastic sheeting hung all round it s impossible to stop the dust on the wet paint.So Ive decided to build the "tent" it should save hours of fine cutting and polishing when sprayed A lot of the problem on the car was,that it had many coats of paint on it .The original colour was black roof and blue doors ,and someone decided they would like it black and maroon which looks good,but I don`t think the original paintwork was properly flatted to give a key, the result is a lot of cracking and flaking of the paint,.Some of the flaking paint was even down the the bare metal. But there are no car shows,so what a great time to restore a car.
