1934 Rover 12 petrol and oil level

Post by digcot65 » Wed Apr 07, 2021 2:15 pm

Hello ,I have a switch on the dash to choose either oil or petrol petrol level. However I cannot see where the oil level switch is on the engine block, also a wire from the petrol/oil gauge has been disconnected ,which I think is the one for the oil .I have only just removed the rear seat to test the petrol gauge Len

Thanks for your help I found a bad connection on the fuel sender so the fuel gauge now work .So onto the oil level sender ,which for some reason is disconnected at the change over button I don`t think the previous owner chased faults up as they arose,so long as the car ran they were happy Len

Hello Inow have the petrol gauge working and the oil sensor seems OK but the push button on the dash to change from oil to fuel levels has been wired incorrectly one wire hanging off and the other two on wrong pins.So getting there slowly
I have a bit of a problem on the ignition,I`ve fitted a new coil and to test it I bought a new length of HT wire to fit into the coil When I hold the HT wire near the chassis and flash the lead that normally goes the the distributor ,onto the chassis, the spark is awful cant think what else, the condensor isnt involved since I have disconnected the lead that fits into the dist to flash it to earth Len

Morning ,the fuel and oil level gauge is now working a treat.I don`t know why,but the wiring of the push button for changing over was completely wired incorrectly Just ordered a new capacitor for the ignition as the spark was hardly noticeable even with points set and a new coil One day the restorstion will be finished. However if it wasn`t for the lockdown I would still have hours and hours work to complete.Once I have the spark as it should be Im changing over to Neg earth then thinking about electronic ign and an Dyanamator as the regulator isnt working.Len
