Wanted - 2x Trafficator Steering column swiches
Wanted - 2x Trafficator Steering column swiches
I need 2 Trafficator Steering column switches for a 1937 Rover 10 and a 1935 Rover 12.
The 1935 Rover 12 has a non standard switch which looks out of place.
The 1937 Rover 10 has a dashboard non-standard switch which again does not look right.
I do have an original switch but unfortunately the wire loom has been chopped so close to the entry to the base of the switch it is not possible to splice in. I have looked at removing the Bakelite base plate but I do not have a puller and do not want to break or destroy it at this point.
If anyone has removed this portion of the switch I would love to hear from them.
Many thanks
Paul W

Re: Wanted - 2x Trafficator Steering column swiches
I have thankfully had a reply and it seems I have located one Trafficator switch.
I have also found an old post on this forum re Rover 10 Trafficator switch which explains that the Bakelite contact base is an interference fit into the switch housing.
Apparently care has to be taken not to crack or damage the Bakelite and ruin the assembly during extraction.
Looks like I have a delicate operation with a plastic core puller and maybe some heat and lubrication to remove the switch base.

The wires are embedded using some resin. You can expose them using a small sharp screwdriver, and re cast with epoxy. See picture

Re: Wanted - 2x Trafficator Steering column swiches
Looks like my earlier post has missed off the pics. I repeat it here hopefully complete...........
I have a spare trafficator switch but unfortunately I dont know which year it is. My Lucas catalogue only goes up to 1939 so it may be later. The number on it is difficult to make out but is something like 3014G/40. That doesnt quite fit with the catalogue numbers I have aroung 35/37 though. I attach photos in case you can recognise it. Please let me know.
(Sorry these 3 pics seem to have slipped to the end)
In the same vein I am missing a threaded cap to my 39 trafficator stalk but dont know what it should look like so difficult to describe. I attach a photo of the location. I cant find a separate reference number in the catalogue.

Hi Rob,
attached are two photos which I think depict the type of trafficator stalk you have.
I have also seen similar with just a blank end cap as well.
I will continue to investigate.
As you said, it is impossible to add photos to a PM.

Re: Wanted - 2x Trafficator Steering column swiches
Hi Paul
Thanks for the new images. That certainly looks like the same trafficator stalk but it appears to have an red dome on the cap as if for a lamp and there is no wiring at all in my stalk. There is no gurantee that my stalk is the correct one of course. Could you tell me what model and year the photos are from? I'm guessing earlier than mine because of the central windscreen winder but I have not seen a door on the glove compartment before. Many thanks

Hi Rob
the photos are from a 1935 Rover 14.

However I think the repeater lamp on the end is an addition and non-standard.
The glove compartment cover again I think has been added.

Re: Wanted - 2x Trafficator Steering column swiches
I think the glove compartment cover is correct for a 14. The 10 doesn't have a cover , I'd need to check more carefully about the 12 but the 14 definitely does, presumably one of the items to warrant the higher price.
