Gauze sump filter
Gauze sump filter
I have a brand new 'Genuine Rover Parts' gauze sump filter, of the type that fits into the side of the sump and pushes into the oil pump - overall length of gauze part 7.5". It is longer than the P2 filters I am used to, but otherwise identical. Does anyone know what model it is for?

I've never seen one, any chance of a picture please

The number on the package is 01042 or 81042 or 91042. Here is a picture:

Thanks for posting the picture.
According to the Spares Manual the number should be 07285 for the 10hp & 12hp and 03040 for the 14hp, 16hp and 20hp models

9071 fitted the P4 75's ,90 & 105 from 54-59. May have been a P3 part but the number seems wrong

Re: Gauze sump filter
Thanks, guys. The gauze-covered filter cage is 7.5" long on the one I have. So does that make it a pre-1938 14hp, or a post-1937 16/20hp? And if it is P3, what is the difference between the P3 60 filter and the 75 filter? I don't expect anyone to do any measuring until an oil change is required, but it would be nice to know some time for certain.

01042 according to the 34 -38 parts book is correct for a 1935, 36,37 and 38 14hp, with the 1577cc. engine

Freddy Boulton had one on his stall at Forde Abbey - and the problem is solved as this long filter is for a 1932 10hp - also confirmed by the owner of such a car.
