Well the new electronic regulator seems to have restored charge to the battery! Easy to fit & uses my old cover, so looks right. I took the opportunity to restore the fuses to more realistic levels (NOT 50 amps on everything!)
I'll give it a good run next week to see if my coil overheating/condenser change has also worked. Meanwhile I have done the old Rally trick of having the other coil all wired up ready to swap over....
The fuel reserve changeover wiring has been located and works, so that will also be fitted …fingers crossed the expense will be worth it !

Re: 12hp Tourer #110 (the blue one)
At last the reserve fuel changeover is in , fitted and working

Amazing how awkward it was for such a relatively simple job! Even the four mounting screws fought back!
But it clicks over and changes… on the reserve setting quite a bit of crud ended up in the pre carb filter… better look at the one on the pump…
Found that the o/s tank mounting bolts had loosened a bit from when the tank came out a couple of years ago, despite self locking nuts, the mounting pads I think had compressed a bit. Better look at the other side!

From what you said, I wondered if you had the gauze in place round the pick up pipe ends ? I've found that if it's missing the pipes can block long before it reaches filters further down the line. The surface area of the original gauze means that enough mesh should remain clear to keep the petrol flowing.
I don't mean that to sound as if the tank is absolutely full of debris but sometimes filling a tank full that has maybe not been full for 20 years or so dislodges bits from the top. Of course, removing the tank is the only way to really clean them out but life is short and that can be a job left to "another time".
I had this problem with the 38 14 but on a test run of 13 miles this morning it performed perfectly and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time out in the sunshine. It has taken a couple of years to reach this reasonably happy place!

Re: 12hp Tourer #110 (the blue one)
The pick-up pipes/solenoid unit I have replaced only had one pipe fitted! My replacement has good wire mesh basket
You are ,of course, right about rubbish sloshing about, but I had this tank off to clean &seal it before w went to Germany a couple of years ago,
All I have to do now is put some miles on it to make sure the new electronic regulator is doing its job and that the coil no longer overheats because the condenser was faulty!

For any variety of reasons I haven’t been able to give the char a decent run, but have used it for running around in without problem…
However… yesterday I fixed a problem with the fuel tank sender (leaky float) and did a 5 mile trip to collect the paper.
The car seemed a bit flat & missed a couple of times and died 100m from home!
It did not want to start, but managed a couple of neighbour frightening backfires
The coil was really hot…..aargh
As I was causing difficulty in the lane a neighbour towed me home where I swapped coils, but this didn’t work & I ran out of time and enthusiasm.
So, no problem with fuel, plent at the carb, I’ll check the spark and see if it will run if I can later today.
I know the distributor should be basically ok and unworn (it is a NOS B90, with a replacement condenser after previous similar issues last year that were suggested to be condenser related.
Is anyone running electronic ignition on a post war P2 twelve? Not necessarily a complete distributor, but possibly a module?
The car is negative earth.
