The restoration of my 1947 12hp has been going well Engine back in and fired up - phenomenal oil pressure (I'll have to get that sorted!), steering, brakes and suspension all sorted. On the whole going well.
But....
The engine was fitted with new engine mounts and a new gearbox/freewheel housing cradle rubber. So far, so good. The engine /gearbox unit has gone back to where it was as witnessed by the marks left by the two old rubber pads on the aluminium casting. But, when I fitted the remote housing and speed change lever my troubles started. Firstly, the bottom of the lever was fouling on the freewheel casing, and secondly the neutral position appears to be too far forward so reverse cannot be selected because the lever fouls on the part of the gate that forms the guide for the first and second gear selection. A further issue is the the reverse stop washer also hits the top part of the support bracket - this prevents selection of fourth gear.
When I last used the car and before I took it all apart, the gear selection was faultless. I have checked that all gears can be selected by using a bar on the selector bars they all slide freely and snap into place cleanly. In order to lift the gear lever I have fitted 1/16" shim under the four selector mounting screws (Item M22 on page F28 of the RSR Workshop Manual). There was no shim fitted originally. The car suffered some quite severe damage whilst being stored but I am not aware of ant damage/distortion of the speed change mechanism.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
