Interior Improvements

Post by AFPU » Mon Dec 01, 2025 11:35 am

I have recently acquired a 1937 Rover 12 Sports Saloon (FPD 357), which I am advised was previously owned by Terry Priestley in the 1970’s and 80’s, and this is my first Rover for I am very much in a voyage of discovery.

The car appears to be in good running order with excellent bodywork and interior, so it looks like any works required are merely minor, apart from ensuring she drives as best she can. So I have a few questions relating to areas that I may wish to improve the interior, as follows:

1. Was the lettering on the dashboard knobs (e.g. Mixture and Throttle) originally in white?

2. If so does anybody have any tips on how to try to restore such (i.e. hand painting etc)?

3. Any tips for dealing with moth holes in the rear compartment quarter panels of the headlining?

Thanks in advance.

Hi this was Terry's "Siegfried Farnon " car.

The Dashboard lettering is white paint. Try using a round tipped fine hypodermic needle to fill the letters.

The headlining is union cloth. You might try wool felting-see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vBODmr_TZE
hope this helps
