P2 and other fuel reserve tank unit

Post by RobHomewood » Thu Mar 31, 2016 12:36 pm

I am trying to refurbish my fuel tank reserve unit (to stop potential air leaks) and having taken it apart (see photo) there does not seem to be any seals or washers in evidence apart from one on the shaft of the piston which moves anyway and wouldnt create a seal. Does anyone know if this is correct or if not where do the seals go and what are they?[imgImage][/img]

As you can see, there is only one fiber ring to seal. I am using also Loxeal on the thread.

Hi Luli
Thanks for your exploded picture but I cant seen enough detail or your notes on it. Do you have a higher resolution version you could email me perhaps? I think I have the same components basically but would like to check. Many thanks

I have updated the original post and added seals and ball information, and the assembly order. http://wp.me/pXLKy-iO.
Hope it helps.

Many thanks Luli thats great. Now to find the missing washers etc! The only thing is that the internal dim -9.4mm- of the right hand (fibre?) washer is captioned as the same as the one in the middle but looks different. Is that dim correct?

You are right. The right washer is 20.2X10 I will correct it in the post.

Now I am really confused Luli! If the middle washer is 16.6 x 9.4 then surely the RH one must be more like 20.4 x 16 not 20 x 10?

Look carefully at the way it is assembled. It seals the most left item with the most right one. The 10 mm diameter is to keep the ball tunnel open.

Well it seems I have finally nailed the engine failures on hills which I have been bleating on about for the last year and it was nothing to do with the reserve fuel switch unit or the air bubbles in the fuel line etc. I was going to dismantle the distributor as my next step but decided instead to swap out the 'new' SU fuel pump AUA66 for the old pump- which is the wrong sort for the engine bay. So I am now kicking myself for not doing it before but I guess I couldn't believe a brand new expensive SU pump would be faulty. Not quite sure what is wrong with it but with hindsight I would say it is either not producing enough flow/pressure at any time or it is overheating and cutting out when it is most needed. So I have wasted a year with pointless repairs and replacements . I do hope Southern Carburettors do the right think and compensate me and also persuade my wife not to hate the Rover!
