There is quite a lot of information on this site, but I have a basic question.
In the tool list in the workshop manual there are spanners 3/16x1/4 (2705): 5/16x 7/16 (2706) (both open end) and 3/8 single end (2712).
There is also a mysterious box spanner (52485) size unspecified! as well a a plug spanner & the freewheel adjusting spanner.

What are these spanners' sizes? BSF or BSW!
Okay; 5/16BSF is the same as 1/4BSW etc, but what should the spanners be? There is quite a difference! On the P2 most threads seem to be BSF, with BSW when a coarse thread is better suited, but what spanners should be in the tool tray....My instinct suggests the "lead" size should be BSF, but what do I know what Rover were thinking!

In the general notes at the front of the parts book it states that the sizes of nuts and bolts are BSF unless otherwise stated. I was about to assume that the same applies to the spanners in the tool kit. However, I went and had a look at the tools in my car. These are almost certainly not original to the car, but they do look the part.

The 2 double-ended spanners are marked as BSF only - 1/4 x 5/16 and 3/8 x 1/2. The single-ended one is dual marked 3/8BSW & 7/16BSF. Taking the BSW equivalents gives 3/16 x 1/4, 5/16 x 7/16 and 3/8 - which is what the parts list says. So much for making assumptions!

I've no idea about the mystery box spanner - there doesn't appear to be a space for it in my tool tray.

“Someone” will surely know about the tubular one!
I think they were mostly made by Snail,but I think Superslim also were used, but I may be mistaken

I thought I had better look and see what tubular spanner I had in my tool kit. Unfortunately it turns out to a double ended one made in Japan for Draper! (7/16"AF x 3/8" AF) And it is part of a 4 piece set which I can't remember acquiring. I suspect the original would have been a bit larger to fill the space provided. Was it in fact a plug spanner?

A plug spanner is listed separately, but it does seem logical…however a long tubular plug spanner is not suitable for removing plug no 4 as it catches on stuff on the bulkhead on my car! Ref. Manufacturers, my post isa bit misleading in that Snail etc I think only made/ branded the open end spanners…or not?

I now have a complete tool tray,thanks to the bay of E! Two are even correctly branded.
This car came with two jacks…one with a handle to wind it up/down,, the other uses the (sloppy fit) wheelbrace
Anyone know which is correct for 1947? I imagine it is the wheelbrace version.
