I don't have anything as new as a Discovery but I am lead to believe the thread size to fit the rod to the end is 11/16 UNF, one LH, one RH. The P2 part is 40471 or 72, depending on the side, and they were the same from 1936 to 1947. Before 1936, they were a serviceable item with replaceable wearing parts. As the start date of the part precedes by some considerable time the introduction of UNF threads in the UK, they wouldn't appear on paper to be a fit. Replacing the whole rod may be a different matter, depending on length, but if the correct items are still available for somewhere about £55 each, there might be little financially to be gained depending on the amount of modification otherwise required.

I have a 1932 car (not a Rover) with a Land Rover drag link on it in place of the long unobtainable original so there's absolutely nothing wrong with looking for newer fixes but thread compatibility is the usual problem with pre war designed parts.
1934 12 Tourer, 1934 14 SS, 1935 12SS, 1936 12S,1937 10, 1938 20SS,1938 14S, 1939 16S, 1946 14S, 1946 16SS, 1947 12S

thanks for your reply I did speak to meteor and mike said he was waiting for some to be returned to him after refurbishment so I will contact him and see if he has received them back ,after replacing my steering box after a rebuild (ics) I still have far to much play so I intend to work my way through the system. at least it is drivable now and aim getting all the niggles done. unblocked the drain holes in the sun roof that sorted out the leak(thanks for the advice)
