As a recent subscriber to the Forum and a member of RSR I just wanted to say how helpful members have been since I joined. It has been a great source of re-assurance. I confess to being a purist but equally feel that our old cars Should meet some safety measures for road safety reasons alone. The semaphore trafficators on my 1948 P3 75 work pretty well 95% of the time, but I have to augment these with additional flashing indicator lamps which would be in keeping with the car's design and age. Any suggestions out there?

I fitted self flashing bulbs from dynamoregulatorconvertions.com. They're a direct replacement for the festoon bulb fitted in your trafficators. They're LED but I found this far more preferable than adding lights. It keeps the originality more intact. Much more visible than non flashing. I've been very happy with them. I guess not a solution if you're having issues with your trafficators actually moving out though.

I fitted twin filament lamp holders to the front sidelights with the higher wattage being the indicators, white indicators are legal at the front. At the rear I re-wired the reversing lights to be the rear indicators and replaced the lamps with orange ones. This means the car looks totally original, there are no ugly indicators on the car. The flashing indicators are wired into the semaphore switch circuit and use an electronic flasher rather than a thermal one so it does not matter how much load is on the circuit. The semaphores still work at the same time and it does not matter if they do not come out occasionally, the idea to replace the festoon lamps with flashing LED ones is a good one that I will get round to one day..
