Re: 1934 Rover 12
Len, just looked at one I have and it appears to be a sealed unit. You certainly don’t want iron grit inside it so it will need to be dismantled before blast cleaning. You could simply clean off the paint with wire brushes etc and re spray or see if powder coasters can coat it if you clean it. It would be necessary so blank off all the apertures before they did that though.

Re: 1934 Rover 12
Len, it is possible to gently tap on the rim of the lid and remove it. The gauze inside can then be replaced. I got a strip from a local show, the stall was selling tractor spares. The top can be modified by making a bracket with a captive nut to fasten inside the air cleaner body. Opening out the rim slightly and replacing the central metal pip with a pan headed machine screw allows for the air cleaner's gauze to be removed and cleaned periodically. Its a lot of work though.

Thanks after having the rocker box and tappet follower covers powder coated it would be a shame for it not to match up. I contacted S U about the vertical lever on the carb.they didn`t know what it is for,but having managed to see the wording on the knob that operates the lever ,which is marked throttle S U think it is some early cruise control device,if it is pulled on to accelerate the car, then if the accelerator pedal is pushed down and released sharply,it disengages the lever.Very clever, but I wouldnt like to rely on it 100% I`ll have ago at the air filter
Re: 1934 Rover 12
Hello Ive managed to peen the top off,so I can now have it powder coated. I`ll secure it with a bolt as suggested thanks again .It will certainly look better and not stand out like a sore thumb .I have to remove the remaining mesh of course Len
Re: 1934 Rover 12
I sand blasted the air filter, but found there are some repairs to the casing done by soldering. This can`t be powder coated as the curing temp is too high, same when there has been lead loading .I`ve had that problem before. so a job for spraying Len
