Hello Colin,
Realise this dates back nearly a year, if you still need a 12HP engine I've got one that turns over smoothly, from a 1947 car.sensible offers welcome, also have a gearbox and back axle{ see my other Ad.}never heard them run, but were in a dry stored car until a couple of months ago, still under cover now.
Might be of interest, regards, Jim.

I have bought the Rover 10 hp 1935 on ebay, the seller also has a 1936 back axle and gearbox, plus various other bits and pieces of bodywork etc and a few bits from later Rovers, someone from the I-O-W has already snapped up the engine, the seller lives in Swanley, Kent.....just off the M25.

Chris,

I'm glad to hear that you bought the 10, I have checked club records and the previous number seems to have been transferred to a modern car.

Are you going to restore it?

best regards

Hi Mike, Yes I do intend to restore it, will no doubt run the restoration alongside the restoration of my ' Snowdrop ' which is really advanced now. I will be collecting the car next friday and taking to my friends workshop.
Did you get to find the original number..maybe I could get it back ? It would be the icing......

The car is complete and totally original, although in a very poor condition, beyond many's capabilities without the knowledge, equipment.....and energy !!!

Will detail the restoration and will photograph for freewheel, the car aught to be recorded now for prosperity. Chris

Hello there Chris
An interesting purchase - best of luck with the restoration
According to the RSR archive database records this car first came into the club in 1986 under the ownership of Eric Bowman who lived in Scotland with original Reg. No. JB 6729, Berkshire issue for 1935, he described it as condition 'G' ie off road in need of restoration .
Then appeared for sale in FW233 of June 1992 for sale possibly suitable for spares??? not sure who seller was.
Next appeared in the club under the ownership of Stewart Lawson who lived in Kent, he purchased it in Jan 2000, still condition 'G' but with Reg. No. VSJ 156.
Maybe you purchased it from him???
Out of interest according to info I have to hand the Rover Co. produced 1,752 Rover 10's in 1935 staring with chassis no. 501001 through to chassis no.502752, and the chassis no. of JB 6729/VSJ 156 is the last one for 1935 on our database.
Finally - just a thought, maybe the Bowman family were able to utilise the JB registration no.?? who knows, although having just checked on the DVLA website they don't seem to have it on their database, so you might be able to get it back, must be worth a word with Lyn Thomas our DVLA liason man, his details are in FW

I'm sorry to say that recovering the number may not be possible. Mycarcheck.com reveals that the The vehicle with JB6729 is a Kia Cee'd Ls Crdi (5 Door Hatchback),

The DVLA check against a Kia shows:-
The vehicle details for JB 6729 are:

Date of Liability 01 08 2010
Date of First Registration 31 07 2007
Year of Manufacture 2007
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1582CC
CO2 Emissions 125g/Km
Fuel Type Heavy Oil
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour BLUE
Vehicle Type Approval M1

So it is currently taxed.

regards

Mike

Thanks Andrew and Mike,

This certainly fills in a few gaps.I have already sourced front and rear replacement wings from Fred Boulton, to pick up later this week. I have written to the DVLA asking if they can supply me with details of the users of the number JB 6729 ...maybe I will be able to persuade them to part with the number...watch this space !!

The car we have affectionately named ' Denzel '.....no idea why...just seems appropriate. It is in a pretty sorry state having spent many years in a barn.

The restoration will be from ground up, and will not be rushed, my ' Snowdrop ' has taken 10 years so far. The car is being kept at my friends massive workshops in Newhaven as I have run out of space at my house, with the P4, P2 and my wifes MGB taking up the garage. I shall check the chassis no. on my next visit to Newhaven.
I purchased the car from Terry Martin from Hextable, Swanley through ebay, who purchased the car from Stewart Lawson in 2000 ( along with a 1936 12 hp ), Terry restored the 12 and sold on, his intention was to restore ' Denzel ' but an Escort Mexico has taken priority...and he needs the space ..oh well !!??
Terry did tell me that ' Denzel ' also spent quite a while out in the open at a lorry yard, and was damaged on the nearside rear roof panel, probably after the ' resting ' period in the barn. The sunroof had been concealed under a sheet of steel screwed down, this will be interesting when removed. Everything on the car is original, even the carpets .....so good for patterns. The engine is not seized and looks quite reasonable. Not sure of the g'box or rear axle yet. Regards Chris
