Hi - and registration question...

Post by P2DavidC » Fri Jun 14, 2013 3:11 pm

SO I'm new... Just bought a P2 chassis and body for restoration... Hi.
I have a question about registration though... My P2 was first registered in 1955, but as far as I understand it, Rover replaced the P2 with the P3 in 1947, and the P4 came along in 1949... (I am hoping you are all sagely nodding your heads!)

So my question is how can I find out when my car was actually built, and would it have just not been registered before 55?

I'll be after a load of parts too - where's the best place to find doors and radiator grills for example!!

Best regards

David

Hi David, your assumptions are about right, we can tell the age of the car, whether is was home market or export and the body style from the VIN number if you have the Rover plate or from the chassis number.

Hello David and welcome to the Forum.

As regards the parts, the RSR has a stock of secondhand parts, including a number of doors and radiator shells, that members may purchase. See the website www.thersr.co.uk to join the RSR.

Great - well when I've got through the work on the chassis, I'll start looking for doors etc!

The chassis number is 7212299. Hopefully you can shed some light on the car

721xxxx is a Rover 12 saloon, 6 lights, 1947. 2300 cars had been manufectured, so that your car is one of the last to be made. For full specifications look here:

But "60mph was reached in 6.5 seconds" is a mistake (a joke?). Should probably be 20mph.

Rover 12 P2 - key facts
◦Introduced in 1937, the end came for the Rover 12 P2 in 1948.
◦The 4 cylinder engine acheived a maximum power of 53 bhp.
◦60mph was reached in 6.5 seconds.
◦Maximum speed of the Rover 12 P2 was 67 mph.

I never realised the 12hp was as fast
